Is Collagen safe for children?
100% Yes. According to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Collagen is safe for children as it is considered a whole food protein source derived from cows. Collagen itself accounts for 30% of the body’s total protein and is the primary building block of the body’s skin, cartilage, muscles, bones and connective tissue. Collagen can support your child’s joint health, help maintain muscle mass and aid in bone health. Sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle, with the highest standards of care, our collagen has been produced using a hydrolyzed process that breaks it down into smaller, more easily digestible peptides ensuring superior bioavailability and easy absorption. Our Immune Protein contains a complete essential amino acid profile, due to the addition of L-Tryptophan, the only essential amino acid missing in natural bovine collagen.
What are the benefits of Collagen for children?
Adding collagen to your child’s smoothies or meals as a source of protein may support normal blood sugar and help your child feel more satiated. Collagen is also rich in the amino acids, Glycine and Proline, which are known to support gut health, joints and bone remodelling. Glycine and Tryptophan (which we added to Immune Protein) both play important roles in the synthesis of serotonin and melatonin. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot make it, so it must be obtained through diet. It serves as a precursor to serotonin and melatonin production which both play a crucial role in regulating mood, sleep, appetite and many other functions.
Is this suitable for adults too?
Yes! Immune Protein is great forchildren and adults. Many parents use it in their own smoothies, oats, coffee or yoghurt for an easy, gentle protein boost.

Unrefined Nutrients was founded by Nicola Inger Scruby — a mum of two (soon to be three!) and qualified nutritionist with a background in Clinical Nutrition, Health Science, and Pregnancy, Postpartum & Infant Nutrition. After years in a busy mothers’ clinic, Nicola saw first-hand how common nutrient gaps are for mums and kids — and how most supplements on the market were either full of additives, hard to absorb, or not suitable for both.
When her own toddler faced repeated daycare bugs, food aversions, and weight loss, Nicola began creating “immunity milkshakes” — wholefood blends packed with immune-supportive ingredients he’d actually drink. These shakes became the inspiration for our Kid’s Immune Protein.
Alongside Nicola, her partner Mitch — a GP — has been part of the journey from day one, ensuring every product is backed by evidence-based research and clinically supported ingredients. Together, they combine nutritionist know-how, medical expertise, and real-life parenting to help families feel their best, naturally.
